On Sept. 18, 2025, EA announced that Skate had reached over 2 million players in just a single day. The majority of the players come from consoles, as SteamDB has only recorded around 92,000 players in its charts.
Skate even published a post on X shedding light on EA flexing its server prowess to accommodate more players. However, server issues have plagued the gaming experience for players, who have expressed their frustrations with the performance in the replies to the post.
One particular topic that’s been popping up in the Steam reviews was about Skate culture and how it isn’t present in this newest installation of the Skate series. Players are saying that skate culture is not in the game whatsoever and that there is no semblance of the street skating underground. “This is the corporate-washed vision of what skateboarding is,” one player said.
Skate was released on Sept. 16, 2025. The game is available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
While Skate is still in early access, the developers have acknowledged the criticisms from players, saying that the game will continually evolve.
Skate’s first season will start in October.
