On Aug. 12, 2025, Firaxis Games, the developers of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, introduced a new bundle named the Settler’s Edition. Firaxis describes this bundle as the “ideal way for new players to start their journey through history with a treasure trove of additional content.”
However, those who already own the Standard Edition of the game are being asked to purchase the Upgrade to Deluxe Edition and then buy the Right to Rule Collection, and some of the personas separately. The developers did not mention whether there’s a way for players who bought the Standard Edition to upgrade to the Settler’s Edition.
The discussion on Steam regarding the announcement was met with negative comments from the players. Most of them are complaining that the game is still not in an enjoyable spot and that the DLCs they are selling have been bought by the players for full price, but are still not yet available to them. Not only that, but the developers are already discounting them too.
Civilization VII is still not in a good position, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes in the game. In an interview with IGN, he admitted that the game had a slow start, but the game’s “lifetime value” is still in line with the company’s initial expectations.
The game was released on Feb. 11, 2025, for the PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. A Switch 2 version followed on June 5, 2025. The game is still lagging behind in player count compared to Civilization VI. As of writing, Civilization VII only has 4,225 players in-game, while Civilization VI has 25,798.
